Bayou Dog Sports Club Carnival, v2026
The Carnival is a Canine Sport Sampler that introduces actionable sports in Acadiana and surrounding areas.
It was to my benefit that the club had to reschedule to fit the entire Carnival into one tiring and jam-packed day. I'm so happy I was able to go volunteer for it again.
Even if it was a very different year from last time. The dock diving was sorely missed. I know Strike would have been so happy and ready to do another round of Dock demos, but life says no this time around. Swampy heat, no happy Strike, and no pool time for us and our dogs. The club is really big on NASDA, so you could say it was 75% of a NASDA workshop with AKC Fetch and Scentwork on the side. Nikki visited to give an UpDog demo. Next year should be different.
I was grouped off with Kirby and Hannah, which meant the job was lost item, rats, and scentwork. It was a fun and silly day of trying to fit tasks into 2.5 or 5 minute intervals, herding people, copious amounts of “show mes,” and making a wealth of mental notes for future training. And a huge crew of swamp-ass.
The sport demos were funny, but I hope that all of the prospects went home seeing the real message: that things aren’t always perfect and that’s okay. The hope is always that someone had enough fun to want more. I love that the club does this for our area.
My "gift" from watching teams all day was to go home focus on Banshee’s odor obedience. She is so solid on not leaving until I release her. Still working on ironing out all variants of her alert, but her progress has been great. She’s so big and serious on what she wants to communicate to me. Her kryptonite is she is an impulsive little squirt who only values speed, speed, speed. Strike valued precision and clarity, so she has flipped me upside down.
Between chores today, we took to Lowe’s for about an hour of real-life work and practicing dumbbell carries in a busy location. A very solid Bannis the Mannis. She is so attentive and ready for anything. Noisy at times but she is our little Banshee in Training. The busy checkout was frustrating for her, but even that was minor, she has been such an easy puppy. I have an order of antlers coming in to pull together our scent training and retrieve work. I want to put her in the BDS NASDA trial in November, aghhh.
